Established in 1980, Piedmont Spa continues to be the go-to place for those seeking exceptional and affordable bodywork. We are a team of massage therapists all certified in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage as well as a variety of other massage modalities. We love giving great massage and enjoy working together to relieve our client's stress, reduce their pain and to simply see them leaving our center feeling better.
We are located at 4022 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA, 94611 (across from 40th St.). We are open from 10:00 am - 9:00 pm daily.
Acupressure is a precise finger placement and pressure over specific points along the body. These points follow specific channels, known as meridians – the same channels used in acupuncture. Activation of these points with a gentle pressure can improve blood flow, release tension, and enhance or unblock life-energy, known in China as “qi”.This release allows energy to flow more freely through the meridians, promoting relaxation, healing and the restoration of proper function. Treatment is performed over loose, comfortable clothing, or over the sheet.
A couple's massage may be in the same room or in separate rooms depending on your preference. Each client may request their preferred massage modalities while they enjoy relaxing and unwinding with their partner.

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the physiological body system called the craniosacral system. It is a method of detecting and correcting your body's innate healing abilities by dissipating the negative effects of stress on your central nervous system.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue massage is ideal for the person who wants a more focused massage yet still wants to feel deeply relaxed. This technique releases chronic muscle tension using deep finger, forearm and/or elbow pressure on tight or contracted areas. It can also accelerate injury rehabilitation and reduce inflammation-related pain such as tendonitis.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage combines Swedish massage techniques with the use of heated stones as tools. The addition of heat allows sore or tight muscle tissue to relax more quickly than traditional massage on its own. You will leave this massage feeling deeply relaxed. Manual Lymph Drainage
A gentle rhythmic techniques developed in the 1930s by Drs. Emil & Estrid Vodder. Scientific research has proven the effectiveness of MLD & clinical observations have confirmed benefits. It is a series of precise movements that stimulates & increases the normal function pf the Lymphatic System. This promots healthy connective tissue & enhances the bodys immune response. It relieves pain & sedates the sympathetic nervous system. As well as promotes the bodies ability to respond to inflammatory conditions like acne & rosacea. Myofascial Release is a form of soft tissue therapy used to treat somatic dysfunction and resulting pain and restriction of motion. It involves applying gentle yet sustained pressure into Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Prenatal massage shares many of the goals and techniques of other massage modalities – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and enhance well-being. Prenatal massage is tailored to the needs of our pregnant clients and is often done in a side-lying and face-up positions with the body supported by pillows. Piedmont Spa's policy is that Prenatal massage can only be performed for women after their first trimester (end of week 12/beginning of week 13) of pregnancy. Prenatal massages are a minimum of 60 minutes. Please call us if you have questions.
Touch without pressure. A subtle & effective form of energy work. Your therapist channels energy into the body with gentle or no touch to activate ones own healing process helping to restore physical & emotional well being. Each session promotes healing by reducing stress & encouraging relaxation. Performed on the table
Shiatsu means "finger pressure." More specifically, Shiatsu focuses on potent points along energy lines- or meridians- throughout the body. It is useful in freeing up blockages of energy, boosting immunity, and releasing tension. The Shiatsu massage therapist may include stretching and compressions. This style of massage can be done over the clothes.
Sports massage uses a wide variety of techniques to reduce injuries, increase physical performance, quicken recovery time and provide much needed relief to sore and overworked muscles. This modality often blends Swedish massage, Deep Tissue, stretching, and range of motion exercises.
Swedish massage can range from light to deep pressure and is used to promote general relaxation, improve range of motion and relieve muscle tension and stress. This technique uses long, smooth strokes to stimulate blood and lymph circulation and encourage the removal of toxins from your body.
TMJ Massage focuses on releasing the musculature that affects the Temporomandibular Joint. Using massage techniques both inside and outside the mouth, this form of bodywork is ideal for clients who suffer from TMJ Disorder, jaw pain, frequent headaches and/or bruxism (teeth-grinding). A trigger point is an area of localized, bunched muscle fibers. Through deep, sustained pressure applied to these points, pain is alleviated and healing hastened.
Tui Na is the oldest form of bodywork. Tui Na is a series of hand techniques that include brushing, grasping, rocking, shaking, and joint mobilization. Tui Na is typically done over loose fitting clothing or through the sheet. Tui Na is great for pain relief, helps facilitate the opening and movement of joints, and nourishes and strengthens the chi/blood flow within the body. This helps with digestion, insomnia, boosting the immune system, and supports injury recovery. Tu Na is wonderful as well for pre/post sporting events.
